What Does Transit Time Mean in Shipping?

Transit time is a big deal in shipping and logistics. It’s basically the total time it takes for a shipment to get from where it starts to where it’s supposed to end up.
At
AEB Logistics, we always include transit time in every quote. That way, customers get an idea of how long things might take and can plan their supply chain and inventory accordingly.
Still, keep in mind: the transit times you see on quotes are just estimates. We base these numbers on standard conditions, and they start counting from the moment we receive your cargo at our facility or the port.
These estimates don’t factor in the extra time we need to onboard new customers, check credit terms, or sort out all the shipping and customs paperwork. That part comes before we even get your cargo moving.
And honestly, once things are in motion, a lot can change. Port congestion, bad weather, customs checks, or even last-minute changes from carriers can all throw off the schedule.
We wish we could control all of it, but some things are just out of our hands. So, the transit times we provide are more of a guideline than a locked-in promise.
